Event

Good morning, Bay Area Burners!

If you’re reading this, you survived last weekend. Congratulations! You win even more awesome headed your way!

First, for those of us wanting to get involved, we’ve got a meet up tonight for Berkeley Spark, an annual Burner-themed day event in Berkeley on July 19th. Meet the promoters, bring your ideas, and eat some tasty grub with some great folks while planning this fun event!

Friday night we’ve got three amazing marching bands getting our asses on the dance floor at the New Parish in Oakland. With the Loyd Family Players & Gamelan X starting us off, and MarchFourth Marching Band pounding out late, you’ll think you’ve teleported to the Marching Band March Off at Center Camp.

Next week, we’ve got a pair of amazing Burner film premieres at BMHQ. With both film makers in attendance, you’ll be able to mingle, jingle, and tingle with them. These are amazing artists who gift their time bringing us a nice tasty piece of playa when we want it throughout the year.

We’ll see you out there, Burners.

The New Parish Presents

MarchFourth Marching Band with The Loyd Family Players & Gamelan X

The New Parish, 579 18th St, Oakland

Friday, May 9th, Doors @ 8pm, Show @ 9pm, 18+

MarchFourth Marching Band is a mobile big band spectacular, consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a drum/percussion corps, anchored by pumping battery-powered electric bass. Stilt-walkers, dancing girls, flag twirlers, clown antics, and acrobatics accompany this eclectic ensemble. The sound is huge, melodic, and dynamic, taking audiences on a musical journey around the globe. MarchFourth's original material draws inspiration from an eclectic range of influences, such as gypsy brass, samba, funk, afro-beat, big-band, jazz, and rock music, as well as television, film, circus, and vaudeville.

MarchFourth is a date, a command, and a band. Imagine Duke Ellington meets Sgt. Pepper in an international big-top Fantasia. Imagine a 1920′s speakeasy where Mr. Bungle meets the Shogun Warriors in a PG Clockwork Orange. Imagine running into this giant spectacle marching through a festival, down a street, or onto stage. The impact is immediate and infectious!

To MarchFourth Marching Band, art is life. Aside from being performers, the members of MarchFourth are also full- or part-time artists, designers, and craftspeople. All their drum harnesses (welded from recycled bicycle parts), stilts, costumes, merchandise, audio, and visual propaganda are designed and produced by members of the band.

The scope of appeal is almost universal: MarchFourth can fit in (and stand out!) at everything from weddings and school assembly concerts, to nationally known music festivals and top-level sporting events. From the hippest to the most down-to-earth, from conservative to liberal, from infant to elderly: all walks of life have been seen enjoying MarchFourth Marching Band.
